The Iranian president visited Saudi Arabia for the first time in many years
President of Iran Seyed Ibrahim Raisi visited Saudi Arabia.
The President of Iran will participate in the 8th Extraordinary Islamic Summit, which will be held in Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia.
It is noted that this visit is the first visit of the Iranian president to Saudi Arabia after the restoration of relations between the countries.
It should be recalled that the relations between Riyadh and Tehran worsened in March 2015 when the coalition led by Saudi Arabia launched a military operation against the "Ansar Allah" movement (Houthis) in Yemen.
In January 2016, Saudi Arabia's embassy in Tehran and its consulate in Mashhad were attacked as a result of the execution of religious scholar Sheikh al-Nimr in Saudi Arabia. It was after this incident that Riyadh severed all diplomatic relations with Tehran. Diplomatic relations between the countries were restored only after seven years.
