The head of Harvard University was forced to resign

The president of Harvard University, Claudine Gaye, the first African-American representative of the university and the second woman to hold this position, has announced her resignation.

He said that this decision was incredibly difficult.

"After consultations with the members of the council, it became clear that my resignation is for the benefit of the university," he stressed.

He will be temporarily replaced by vice chancellor Alan Garber.

Coldyn Gay is set to step down as president of Harvard University, less than a month after his failed speech at a US Congressional hearing on anti-Semitism at the institution.

According to information, he will resign in these days.

Members of the Harvard Corporation, one of the university's governing bodies, will notify university partners by email. Gay is expected to make a separate statement later.

It is not known who will be appointed the temporary rector.

It is noted that Gay's tenure as rector will be the shortest in the history of Harvard University. So, he spent only six months in this position.
